Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about car batteries, maintenance, warranties and DrBattery's onsite services.
How long does a car battery typically last?
A car battery typically lasts around 2 to 3 years, depending on the battery type, vehicle model, driving habits, and usage. In Singapore's hot and humid climate, higher temperatures can accelerate battery degradation, so some batteries may require replacement after around 1.5 to 2 years.
Do maintenance-free car batteries need distilled water?
No. Most modern maintenance-free car batteries are sealed and do not require distilled water to be added. They are designed to operate without regular electrolyte top-ups.
How can I safely clean corrosion from my battery terminals?
If you notice white or bluish corrosion around the battery terminals, switch off the vehicle and disconnect the battery, starting with the negative terminal first. The corrosion can be cleaned using a wire brush with a small amount of baking soda and water, or carefully removed with fine sandpaper. After cleaning and reconnecting the terminals, a suitable terminal protector can be applied to help reduce future corrosion.
Why does my car battery drain when the vehicle is not being used?
Even when your vehicle is switched off, certain electrical systems such as the clock, alarm system, onboard electronics, and dashcam may continue drawing a small amount of power. This is known as parasitic drain. If your vehicle will be left unused for an extended period, consider switching your dashcam to a low-power setting or disconnecting it. For longer periods of inactivity, additional battery-maintenance measures may also be helpful.
Do your car batteries come with a warranty?
Yes. DrBattery provides a 1-year battery warranty for petrol vehicles and a 6-month battery warranty for diesel vehicles. Warranty coverage is subject to the applicable terms and conditions.
Do you provide onsite car battery replacement?
